In most cases, prior to surgical intervention, the doctor will order imaging studies such as ultrasound and/or MRI. These imaging studies are used to further evaluate the size, location, and adjacent structures of the mass. Once removed, the mass will be sent to pathology to confirm composition of the mass and making sure it is not malignant.
